Stunning Braided Hairstyles for Natural Hair

This is how we get the adjective harebrained, which refers to these perceived qualities of the hare and usually means flighty, reckless, or badly thought out. Some writers hyphenate it—hare-brained—but the one-word form is noted in dictionaries, for what that’s worth, and is more common. And the first and fundamental cause of your failure is, I think, your hairbrained, unquenchable youth.

His high school highlights are ridiculous

These 'dos span all lengths and sizes so you're bound to find something that suits you. Plus, we tapped experts Jada Jenkins and Nikki Nelms, who let us in on a few tips and tricks to getting the most out of your braids. Lupita Nyong'o is a constant natural hair inspiration, with countless red carpet looks that may be just the thing to try in your everyday life. Her braided bun is a great style to wear to a summer wedding or for your next job interview. Yara Shahidi shows us that even traditional hairstyles like Fulani braids have plenty of room for creativity. From the beads to the finishing afro puff, everything about this style feels fresh and absolutely stunning.

Middle-Parted Fulani Braids

To keep this braided style looking fresh, "Do not forget to cleanse the scalp and keep the hair moisturized," Nelms says. A three-to-five-minute mask—one of her favorites being Sebastian Professional Dark Oil Mask ($19)—is a must. Chunky braids are a win-win because they typically take less time to install but help stylishly protect natural, transitioning, and relaxed hair.

A simple set of cornrows is always a good look, and Zoe Kravitz's sleek braids will look great with any beauty look you pair it with. Kelly Rowland’s braided jumbo ponytails are on my list of styles to try. My favorite part of draft weekend is watching the reaction of players and their families when their lives change forever.

Braided Low Bun

Here, Zendaya rocks a set in a subtle chocolate ombré, proving the sky's the limit for creativity with this protective style. 14-year-old genius Eli is rejected from Harvard and ends up at Ivy League wannabe Whittman U, where he meets 41-year-old Leo, a gambler who has dropped out of life to enroll in college; Leo ... California Balayage is a surfer girl–inspired hair painting technique that’s perfect for people who want to look like they’ve spent all summer at the beach—without the sun damage that comes along with it. If you're seeking a braided style that doesn't require a visit to the salon or hours in the chair, try Tracee Ellis Ross's fun and flirty 'do. Her unique play on plaits can keep your hair protected for up to a week. To prove it to you, we rounded up 17 of our favorite braided hairstyles to inspire your next salon visit or even to try at home.

But Eli has no real struggles, no conflict, so it's hard to get a handle on him or care about whether he succeeds. Meanwhile, moments that are meant to be substantial, such as Leo's awkward reconciliation with his estranged, teenage daughter, instead ring awkwardly shrill and hollow. Leo's girlfriend, whom he meets at a fraternity party, may not even have a name. Eli's girlfriend, a perky townie played by Julia Garner, is essentially your standard Manic Pixie Dream Girl. You must — there are over 200,000 words in our free online dictionary, but you are looking for one that’s only in the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary.

We love how this look can go from day to night with a simple change of outfit. If you're ready to spice up your natural hair with pastels, use Amandla Stenberg's colorful shoulder-length box braids as your guide. An updo like Tia Mowry's won't weigh you down like traditional box braids and will pair well with professional work attire or high-neck tops. But Eli also forges somewhat of an identity by joining the school's Collegiate Mastermind team. With his vast brain full of otherwise useless trivia, he soon becomes its captain.

Traveling in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vaki would only end up spending six months in Tonga before being re-assigned to serve out the rest of his two-year mission in Salt Lake City. This wasn’t just a hair-brained idea from the Utah coaching staff. Vaki earned plenty of experience on offense in high school, including sharing the backfield with Najee Harris before transferring to another high school. In his senior year, he caught 70 passes for 1,394 yards and 20 touchdowns, earning the league MVP.

His real intent, though, is to beat Harvard—his dream university, which rejected him. And so as Eli and his teammates trounce school after school (Amherst, Vassar, NYU, MIT), they walk in slow motion in matching, preppy blue blazers to alt-rock music. As if that weren't enough of a "Rushmore" rip-off, the group even has its own sweet, smart Margaret Yang figure, played by Greta Lee. After graduating from high school, Vaki traveled to Tonga as part of a Latter-day Saints religious mission.

Beyoncé's Formation hair era was noteworthy (and made me even more of a stan). One of my favorite looks was her middle-parted Fulani braids with the textured ends. Gabrielle Union's side-parted braids frame her face and are an excellent protective style for beach weather. This holiday excursion of a hairbrained youth was as transient as a border-foray on a large scale. Like his hairbrained, unquenchable youth, bright with folly, the sunsets and vanity lay in the past.

Greg decides to buy a bottle right before graduation to help his little brother, but it turns his hair orange. Rocking beads on the ends of braids can feel like you're taking a step back into grade school, but truly, we're here for the nostalgia. A collarbone-grazing length is also super stunning, as is some graphic green liner.

At the risk of already turning this into a Matthew Stafford and Clayton Kershaw thing, it’s still pretty darn important to point out that Vaki was predominantly a safety at Utah. But when the injury bug hit the running backs room, Vaki was moved over to an offensive role in addition to his defensive role. One of the Detroit Lions’ most fascinating picks in the 2024 NFL Draft was fourth-round pick Sione Vaki. He’s a do-it-all player who will almost certainly have an immediate impact as a four-phase special teamer—but he also has the experience and the skill set to potentially play on both offense and defense, too. However, you can give it a go for six to eight weeks with a protective style without a permanent commitment. Since Serena Williams stepped foot on the world stage, she has rocked braids with pride.

Style with face-framing braids, as seen here, to create a fun riff on '90s tendrils. Crown braids are achievable on any hair texture, but Ciara's goddess braid is ideal for those with a few days old silk press, relaxed hair, or a sew-in. Don't be afraid to frame the face with loose pieces of hair to add texture. When we talk about braided styles for Black women, we usually think of options that require an extended trip to your favorite braider.

If you know how to cornrow, then try this halo braid out for size. Still, you can pull out a few face-framing pieces to create a more undone, effortless vibe. We enjoy braided looks that can be done in the comfort of our own homes, and Skai Jackson's braided updo is one of those. You may need the help of a couple of mirrors angled in the right directions or a best friend who's patient and good with parts.

Braided Lob

When Leo and Eli introduce themselves to each other, it's with the respective, self-assigned tags of "late bloomer" and "child prodigy." As one does. Immediately and out of nowhere, the two become the absolute best of friends, even though neither of them seems even remotely like a real human being. Most authorities on these things regard hairbrained as a misspelling. It has been a common one for centuries, though, and it does sort of make sense when we consider that someone with hair in their brain probably isn’t much smarter than a hare. Hares are known for their jumpiness, and they’re also not the smartest creatures on Earth.

Loose Bun

You have even called me hairbrained, and perhaps you were right; but you know that I can be very serious when I wish. A thousand things may happen if you carry out this hairbrained scheme of yours. Okay, so these are twists, but we added this cropped, side-swept do because this look can be achieved with braids as well. Chloe and Halle Bailey are always showcasing the versatility of locs. Here, a couple mini braids and a satin headband help Halle's beehive style to shine.

Your Favorite Band is in the Dictionary

You can wear her cornrowed crown with the back of your hair pulled up or down. If you missed Tessa Thompson's whip braid at the Met Gala, head over to Google to catch a glimpse. A whip braid might not work in certain areas of the real world, but this braided crown works for any occasion. When we first see Leo, he's parked in his Mercedes Benz convertible, pounding a beer and pondering which sports electives to take.

To style, sweeping braids to one side will let you show off their length while also keeping hair out of your face. Straight-back cornrows are a classic for both long and short styles alike. And while they will protect your hair, they'll also require that you take care of your scalp. In case you're experiencing any tenderness or itchiness, Pattern Beauty's rosemary, peppermint, and lavender-infused Scalp Serum ($25) will bring relief.

Braids are versatile and can be worn down or styled into an updo like Laura Harrier's bun here. It's a simple switch-up that's great for summertime since it keeps hair off of your neck. Just beware of tension at the crown of the head and edges, and reach for the Mane Choice Rejuvenation Solution EnhanceMint Scalp Drops ($20) in case you need a little TLC.

The lyrics of Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" come to mind when we see this style of cornrows. No matter the size of your braids, you'll want to ensure there isn't an abundance of tension or stress on your edges or scalp as these are installed. Brightly hued braids are perfect for summer or brightening your world any time of year.

My mom wanted to make sure my sister and I weren't mislabeled when we stepped out into the world. While some might say her feeling about braids was wrong, if we look at how society has viewed Black hair in the workplace, in media, and beyond—her point of view in the '90s wasn't too far off. Cornrows are a classic, but that doesn't mean you can't add a little spin. You can also style into an updo like a braided bun, as seen here.

I haven’t seen them all for the Lions draft class yet, but it’s going to be hard to top Vaki’s. At this point, he has already gotten the call from the Lions, but he and his family patiently wait for that moment to be announced live on television. While there is some tape on offense from his Utah days, his high school tape is littered with ridiculous highlights. If you're looking to keep things sleek, it doesn't get easier than braiding your hair all the way back and securing it into a low bun.

Here are 20 braided hairstyles to think about the next time you're ready to try a new 'do. They typically involve a mix of cornrows and box braids that can be accessorized with beads. Clear, wooden, bright, or sparkly—the possibilities are endless. Saweetie's addition of clear beads and a trendy center parting brings this braided style into a new era. Storm Reid likes to change up her look, making her the perfect source of hair inspiration.

Everything you need to know about new Detroit Lions running back and/or safety Sione Vaki. A modern approach to classic, open-air painting for maximum brightness with minimal sectioning. "HairBrained" is painfully contrived and self-consciously quirky from the word go. It has the audacity to borrow liberally from far superior comedies—"Rushmore," specifically—without contributing much in the way of originality or believability.

This style on Ebonee Davis shows that you can switch up your puffs with a smaller set of braids at the roots, leaving much of your curls to do their thing. Plaits add texture and dimension to your typical space buns and are a cinch to style if you've already got box braids. To maintain this 'do, apply foam styler post-wash and secure the hair in a silk scarf as it dries to help smooth down flyaways.

His edgy and daring punk spikes symbolized a breakaway from traditional hairstyles. Regarding the intersection of music and fashion, David Bowie remains a legend. His pompadour mullet hairstyle is iconic, capturing the spirit of the 70s and the 80s. Though looking back on mullet hair paints this hairstyle in an unflattering light, there was a moment during the 80s when this was one of the trendiest styles around. Notable celebrities like Billy Ray Vaughn and Rob Lowe rocked this look which was partially disheveled and partially sleek. This is one of the few hairstyles that likely won’t see a revival as the trends come back around.

This is a classic mullet hairstyle but paired with clean shaved sides. The long hair at the back is reduced and appears like a tail and rests on the back. To make the look even bolder, pair it with clean stripes on the shaved sides. This is a great look for the daring men out there since it has all the features to command attention wherever you go. However, to give your locks some hold to remain intact throughout the day, you would want to apply pomade or gel on your hair. Though this hairstyle became popular in the 1980s, its origin can be traced back to the ‘40s.

This was most often accomplished by teasing the hair up and applying mousse to hold it in place. Even individuals with straight hair were able to add volume to their hair in this fashion. We love Dove Men + Care Well Defined Taming Gel because it will keep your hair in place all day while adding a high shine to the look.

This hair-cut was the most loved and exceptionally common amongst men in the 1980s. Nowadays though, the mullet hair-trend is much harder to come across, and sadly, we haven’t seen a huge resurgence of the hairstyle since this decade. Big hair wasn’t the only style that men liked to wear in the 80s.

Tall and Curly Fringe

80s hair styles men

The hipster hairstyle featured layered hair on the top and hair slicked downwards on the sides and the back. The hair in the front was swept to cover the forehead with some waves reaching the eyebrows. This was a great haircut for guys with an oval-shaped face.

Long Blonde Textured Mullet on Straight Hair

But, of course, wavy hair isn’t the only way to rock a mullet. Those with natural curls or permed hair also used to wear their hair in the popular style back in the 80s. Keeping the curls tight and bouncy on the top is key when wearing a curly mullet, so try this hairstyle out with your favorite curling cream or gel. Rocking this hairstyle involves the use of a lot of chemicals and hair products to create permanent curls on long hair. However, if you have naturally curly hair, you will not need to use chemicals. The ultimate low-maintenance short hairstyle, the buzz cut has been trendy for decades.

Retro Hairstyles to Try Right Now

"There are tons out right now, from clips to headbands to claw clips." High top fades can be paired with braids, twists or lines, and barbers often recommend one that will go with your style. The Mullet was one thing, but the 80s also featured some men enjoying the Mullet and moustache combo. This was often a modern “cowboy” look of some sort, and while not everyone was into the look, a good majority wore it for a while.

The Rockabilly:

Stranger Things has taken the world by storm and brought the 80s back with a bang. And with the retro vibes in full swing, it's no surprise that men's fashion and hairstyles are also getting a major throwback. Though the African-Americans initially wore them, in the ’80s, they became so popular that even the whites started wearing them, especially the lovers of reggae music. You cannot get it wrong with a quiff style, and once you wear it, you will realize why it was so popular among guys in the 80s, especially politicians and businessmen.

For an authentic Billy Idol-inspired look, consider using temporary hair color spray to add bold streaks of color to your spikes. This will give your hairstyle an even more rebellious punk rock vibe. To understand the impact of 80s men’s hair is to decode a language of fashion that still speaks to us. This hairstyles seeks to bring in the lilting musical inspiration to the light. But instead of the traditional comb back, it is arranged in a spike-like punk fashion.

By dyeing the outer layer of hair blonde, you’re attracting light to your look while grounding your features with natural brunette underneath. If your hair is on the thinner or finer side, then this style will create the volume that you have been searching for. The punk era of the 80s featured oversized mohawks, a wild, rebellious and edgy hairstyle.

Boy Hairstyles

The idea of going for an 80s hairstyle is quite interesting, and you should do it at least for one time in your life. Guys with blonde hair often consider going forward with curtain bangs. When you want to style your tousles and frame your face, you may go for this haircut without thinking twice. Long curly blonde hairstyle is one of the most casual looks you can get now.

This legendary hairstyle is characterized by short, neatly styled hair at the front, in stark contrast to the party happening in the back. If you are looking forward to getting a timeless 80s hairstyle, you may go ahead with long combover hairstyle. However, make sure that you have enough hair on your head, so that you can go for this hairstyle without any challenge. The bouncy long hair side parted hairstyle can help you improve your appearance with added volume. If you love long hair, we encourage you to give this a try.

With a strong styling product, you can also get a perfect shiny finish on your hair. Facial hair in the 1980s experienced its own share of trends and transformations, mirroring the bold and varied hairstyles of the decade. The mustache was particularly popular, epitomized by celebrities like Tom Selleck and Freddie Mercury. These mustaches were often thick and neatly groomed, representing a blend of masculinity and meticulous care. Meanwhile, beards were less common but typically worn full and robust by those who embraced them, such as musicians and actors who wanted to make a strong style statement.

Long bob was one of the iconic men’s hairstyles from the 80s. You will be able to combine your long bob waterfall with a low fade undercut to get a perfect appearance. 80s men hairstyles were a diverse and eclectic mix that reflected the dynamic spirit of the era. In the 1980s, men’s hairstyles were all about bold lines and distinctive cuts. From the sharp angles of the flat top to the precise parting in mullets, these lines defined the era’s hairdos. Iconic musicians like David Bowie and Prince sported these edgy, boundary-pushing styles with confidence and flair.

“I personally want comfort first, so I will opt for a seat width of 18 to 22 inches and depth of 20 to 24 inches,” Henderson says. Before you buy any chair, you first need to know if it will work with your table’s height and scale. “You want to think about the relationship between your table height and your chair height and who will be sitting there,” Lunt says. These classic pieces are presented with new hues and added color combinations including soft pastels. “They didn’t fit into a 1950s home,” observes Knud Erik Hansen, the firm’s current CEO.

We also aim to offer diversity in our collection—from iconic classics like the Eames Lounge Chair or Womb Chair to contemporary pieces from today’s rising talents. Our commitment starts with choosing materials and production methods that reduce environmental impact. Back in the late 1990s, quality modern furniture from renowned designers like Charles and Ray Eames, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Eero Saarinen was difficult to find and extremely expensive. The George Oliver Putnam Side Chair is the overall best dining chair because of its stylish design, ample color options, and padded seat and back rest. It offers a great deal of support and convenience without a high price tag.

In a few years, Danes came around, too, embracing a chair that became a hallmark of Danish modernism the world over. Put simply, our goal is to create beautiful, enduring designs while minimizing environmental impacts across our supply chain and company. We’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished on this sustainability journey so far.

This gorgeous dining chair offers plenty of comfort with a fabric cushion and a stylish back that brings a bit of earthy elegance to any dining space. Reliable Web App Pattern: Now Optimizes Azure Migration with Enhanced Infrastructure and Security

circuit breaker design pattern

By understanding the key differences between these patterns and applying them thoughtfully, you can significantly improve the resilience of your application and ensure a better user experience. Software systems make remote calls to software running in different processes, usually on different machines across a network. What's worse, if you have many callers on an unresponsive supplier, you can run out of critical resources leading to cascading failures across multiple systems. Hence, developers needed a method to prevent this cascading effect between microservices in case of network connectivity issues, timeouts, or service unavailability. The circuit breaker pattern was introduced to address these issues in this context.

These thresholds can be based on response times, error rates, or other relevant metrics. Setting these thresholds too low may result in false positives, while setting them too high may lead to cascading failures. Finding the right balance is crucial to ensure the optimal performance and resilience of the microservices architecture. Circuit breaker patterns are a design pattern that helps in building resilient microservices by providing a mechanism to handle failures and prevent cascading failures. In this article, we will discuss some best practices for implementing circuit breaker patterns in microservices.

What kind of Experience do you want to share?

When specifying a circuit breaker for a given application, the engineer must consider many factors beyond the rated amperage and voltage. They include reaction time, reset time, and the ability to design in a delay; ability to withstand shock and exclude particles and water; temperature capabilities; and form factor. So, although the circuit breaker may play a supporting role in an engineer’s design, choosing the right one is not a straightforward task.

Steps to Implement Circuit Breaker Pattern

This isolation ensures that failures are contained and do not spread, improving the overall stability and resilience of the architecture. When multiple microservices collaborate to handle requests, one or more services might become unavailable or exhibit high latency. When complex applications use microservices, an outage in one microservice can lead to application failure. Microservices communicate through remote procedure calls, and transient errors could occur in network connectivity, causing failures. (The transient errors can be handled by using the retry with backoff pattern.) During synchronous execution, the cascading of timeouts or failures can cause a poor user experience.

Furthermore, it is recommended to implement a monitoring and alerting system for circuit breakers. This allows developers to track the health of services and identify potential issues before they become critical. Monitoring can involve collecting metrics such as error rates, response times, and throughput. Alerts can be triggered based on predefined thresholds, notifying developers when a service is experiencing problems. When deciding which pattern to use, consider your application’s architecture, potential failure points, and the desired level of fault tolerance.

First API would start throwing error and it will eventually crash as it would reach its max heap size. Here are some of the most common third-party libraries for implementing the circuit breaker pattern. With the above example in mind we will imitate the functionality in a simple example. A monitoring service mimics the web app and makes both local and remote calls. Use the statistics built into the circuit braker library to see the health an beahviour of your services. Such evaluation measurements encompass metrics, for instance, number of successful/unsuccessful requests, status of the circuit breaker, and error rates.

However, if several requests exceed the maximum threshold (200ms) means that service not responding anymore. As a result, it will fail back to the consumer and inform this particular service is not available. So, if you remember the above-mentioned states of this pattern, now we are moving to “Open” state from the “Closed” state. In this state, the Circuit Breaker routs the requests to the Microservice and counts the number of failures in each period of time.

Additionally, circuit breaker patterns provide mechanisms for monitoring and logging failures, enabling developers to identify and address underlying issues proactively. When a microservice makes a request to another microservice, it checks the response. If the response is successful, the circuit remains closed, and the request is forwarded to the destination microservice. However, if the response fails or exceeds a predefined threshold, the circuit breaker trips, and subsequent requests are not sent to the failing microservice. Instead, the circuit breaker returns a predefined fallback response, allowing the system to gracefully handle failures. Circuit breaker patterns are a design pattern that can be used to improve the resilience of microservices.

circuit breaker design pattern

The Circuit Breaker pattern is one in which an intermediary service is placed between a caller and a target. The purpose of the intermediary service is to observe conditions in the target. Should hazard occur, the circuit breaker process reroutes traffic to another service that has the logic to mitigate the hazardous condition. If you have 100 microservices, it cost total 8.78 hours of downtime in a year. Therefore, we need to pay more attention in order to protect our services. Usually when we develop a system or application using whatever architecture (Microservices/ Monolithic), we guaranteed our clients, that the application availability will be 99.999%.

This ensures that users can continue streaming content without interruptions, even if one of the microservices is experiencing issues. One best practice for implementing circuit breaker patterns is to set appropriate thresholds for failure detection. This involves defining the criteria that determine when a service is considered unhealthy. For example, if a service returns a certain number of consecutive errors or takes too long to respond, it can be marked as unhealthy. By setting these thresholds, the circuit breaker can quickly detect failures and take appropriate actions.

If those requests succeed, the circuit breaker resumes back to the normal operation. Otherwise, if there is a failure, the timeout period begins again. In today's digital landscape, microservices architecture has become increasingly popular due to its ability to create scalable and flexible applications. However, as with any technology, there are challenges that come with implementing microservices.

Some circuit breakers meet these needs by providing DIN-rail mounting provisions with terminal bus connectors and optional auxiliary contacts. These auxiliary contacts can power indicator lights to remotely signal the status of the breaker. They also meet UL 489 and UL 1077 standards as well as relevant cUL, TUV, CSA, and CCC codes. Such breakers can be specified with one to four poles and operating currents from 0.1 to 63 Amps. They can be specified for dc voltages of 80 or 125 or ac voltages up to 480V.

When the contacts are closed, current flows through the coil and creates a magnetic field. The magnetic field acts on the core within the delay tube according to the right-hand rule, drawing it into the center of the coil. Increased current strengthens the magnetic field and, consequently, the force with which the core is drawn into the coil. If your house is powered by electricity, then you can find a circuit breaker. So when you get the power from the main grid, the power always comes through a circuit breaker. If the main grid behaves in an abnormal way, or if additional power tries to come, then that circuit breaker will go off and the internal power system of the house will be protected.

Creating this kind of breaker means adding a threshold for trying the reset and setting up a variable to hold the time of the last error. A downtime of 5.25 minutes per year is totally fine for a monolithic system. 🌟 This will be the main example Im using to explain several use cases with Circuit Breaker pattern. By how much depends on the storage layer used and generally available resources.

But as soon as service A comes back online, the next coming traffic will be served. If each request is trying to reach service A, without considering it failing all the requests which come from the consumer will wait 30 seconds. The reason is when the webserver processes queue request more and more requests reach continuously. 🌟 Now what happens is the remaining requests the reach your service will be queued (blocked).

High-level architecture

In conclusion, implementing circuit breaker patterns is essential for designing resilient microservices. With these best practices in mind, developers can build robust and reliable microservices that can withstand the challenges of a distributed system. In conclusion, circuit breaker patterns play a vital role in designing resilient microservices architectures.

Circuit Breaker Pattern (Design Patterns for Microservices)

Let’s think about a situation where a request goes to a middleware application and you need to call another remote backend service. If everything goes fine and smooth, the application can forward the request to the backend service and send the response back to the client. But, if the backend service was down, the request could not be completed. The next few requests from the client also try to call the backend service and fail. Here, we can use the Circuit Breaker model to manage backend errors.

Applicability

The circuit breaker pattern is beneficial in modern microservices architecture. It allows developers to prevent cascading errors due to network issues and improves application availability. It helps prevent cascading failures and maintains system stability, ensuring reliable performance in distributed architectures. Another example of designing resilient microservices with circuit breaker patterns is Netflix. Netflix is a streaming platform that relies heavily on microservices to deliver content to millions of users worldwide. To ensure the resilience of their services, Netflix has implemented circuit breaker patterns.

circuit breaker design pattern

Microservices Design Pattern: Circuit Breaker

In his excellent book Release It, Michael Nygard popularized the Circuit Breaker pattern to prevent this kind of catastrophic cascade. The Circuit Breaker Pattern, on the other hand, is designed to prevent a cascading failure by monitoring the interactions between services or components. When it detects a predefined number of failures or timeouts, the circuit breaker “trips” and temporarily blocks any further calls to the failing service, allowing it to recover. Imagine a web application that has both local files/images and remote services that are used for fetching data.

▪️ System and network resources will get tired with low performances. This would escalate throughout the system and the whole infrastructure will come down. It makes it easy to use the Saga pattern to manage transactions and the CQRS pattern to implement queries. Take a look at my Manning LiveProject that teaches you how to develop a service template and microservice chassis. I help organizations improve agility and competitiveness through better software architecture.

Make sure to insert the selected circuit breaker library into your microservices code base. Circuit breaking in this case is usually done by re-configuring or adding annotations to your programming structure such as service methods or HTTP clients. 🌟 During that 30 seconds, the remaining requests that come to consume A will try to reach service A and those are also going and wait in the queue. 🌟 After going through the use cause 1 and 2, I’m sure now you know that system failures could happen when an individual service failed (supplier become unresponsive)— Figure 13. 🌟 It's very much possible when there are multiple services, those services call (using aggregator pattern) for multiple backends(services).

So, you can use the Circuit Breaker Pattern to improve the fault-tolerance and resilience of the Microservice Architecture and also to prevent the cascading of failure to other microservices. As you can see, 0.001% of non-availability cost total 5.256 minutes of downtime per year. If you still think this is okay since its just 5 min, you are still wrong. Because when it comes to microservices, we have multiple services.

Similarly, the circuit breaker object is situated between the caller and the callee service, and trips if the callee is unavailable. 🌟 The circuit breaker works (pass requests through the service) normally when it is in the “closed” state. But when the failures exceed the threshold limit, the circuit breaker trips.

Network issues could occur, components could fail or a router or a switch might be broken along the way. We don’t know what could go wrong. Therefore each component in a distributed system is responsible for staying alive. Let’s take an example to understand, where we can apply Circuit Breaker Pattern in Microservices architecture. Discover transformative insights to level up your software development decisions. ▪️ If the number of occurrences exceeds the maximum threshold (200ms) of the service, the Proxy will identify that the service is not responding anymore.

Imagine clients are sending 10,000 TPS (transaction per second) to your system. The backend server crashes and waits for recovery, but the client is still trying to send a huge amount of traffic to the backend server that is still trying to recover. In this type of situation, the system should be designed in such a way that it waits for some time until the service is available.

Circuit breaker patterns are a design pattern that helps ensure the resilience and stability of microservices. Inspired by electrical circuit breakers, which protect electrical systems from overload, circuit breaker patterns provide a mechanism to detect and handle failures in microservices. By implementing circuit breaker patterns, developers can prevent cascading failures, improve fault tolerance, and enhance the overall reliability of their microservices architecture.

circuit breaker design pattern

The Circuit Breaker pattern in microservices is a fault-tolerance mechanism that monitors and controls interactions between services. It dynamically manages service availability by temporarily interrupting requests to failing services, preventing system overload, and ensuring graceful degradation in distributed environments. 🌟 During this timeout period, any requests to the offline server will fail. When that time period is up, the circuit breaker will allow a limited number of tests to pass, and if those requests are successful, the circuit breaker will return to normal operation.

As an example, assume there are 100 microservices in your application. Implementations of the Circuit Breaker Design Pattern need to retain the state of the connection over a series of requests. It must offload the logic to detect failures from the actual requests. Therefore, the state machine within the circuit breaker needs to operate in some sense concurrently with the requests passing through it. Here are some practical complex scenarios where NGINX load balancing circuit breakers are used.

"But her legacy exists because she's evolved through the years. Like they just released a Barbie with Down syndrome. That's awesome." "I am absolutely blown away by my Barbie," Mirren said in a statement provided by Mattel. "To be chosen by Barbie as a Role Model is a huge compliment, and something I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams happening to me at this stage in my life."

The old Dreamhouse website is still up and running...

Her skirt is pink and consists of a waistband and a fuchsia pink bow pattern. Her shoes are similar to the ones in season one, with flat Mary Janes but a bright pink just like her hair ribbons and the bows located near the sides. For the users who love TikTok, if it actually disappeared, it would be the government taking away a place where maybe they make money, where they get their entertainment, where they figure out what to read or what to cook next. To free speech advocates, this would be dystopian, unheard of for the government to crack down on an app with such wide usage by Americans. And I think there’s also this question, too, around what about TikTok makes it so harmful?

So bottom line here — selling TikTok is quite complicated, and perhaps not even possible for these reasons that you’re giving, right? I mean, not least of which because the Chinese government might not allow the algorithm to leave the country. And that’s not something that the US Congress has a lot of control over. And then, there’s a lot of questions around how this would work, technically. Yeah, no one’s coming to pick up your phone and to forcibly delete this thing. What the law says is that app stores and web hosting services wouldn’t be allowed to carry TikTok anymore.

Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse Cast

Life in the Dreamhouse doesn’t pretend Barbie, Ken, and company are real people any more than the movie does. The only doll whose age is definitively known is Chelsea, who turns six during Happy Birthday Chelsea. Skipper appears to be between 15 and 17 years old, while Stacie falls somewhere in between her two sisters. The topic of Barbie's age was brought up multiple times during Gifts, Goofs, Galore, with no doll being able to provide an answer until Barbie told them at the end of the episode. Ryan and Raquelle are the same age, as they are twins, and Ken, Teresa, Nikki, Midge and Summer are assumed to be around the same age as each other.

Social Impact - Ajay Banga

But analysts estimate that it will cost tens of billions of dollars. And a lot of the companies that could afford to buy it, like Meta, the owner of Facebook, or Google, which owns YouTube, would probably be kicked out of the running because they are simply too big. You can enter your zip code, and there’s a button that appears. And you can press it, and the call goes straight to your representative.

The show was very successful, with over a billion views worldwide.[1] There is also Barbie LIVE! In the Dreamhouse, a YouTube series that has re-enacts episodes using actual Barbie dolls. The Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse web series has its own dedicated Wiki. In response, she designed Barbie (formally Barbara Millicent Roberts), a teenage fashion model doll, as an alternative to the infant dolls that dominated the toy market at the time. The Barbie doll immediately became a smash hit, and her popularity has endured to this day.

Amid her changing appearance, new careers and recent blockbuster film debut, Barbie is not slowing down as she celebrates her 65th anniversary. Or where the Mattel execs try to get life-size extradimensional-visitor Barbie back inside her own gigantic packaging? Sight gags like that are Life in the Dreamhouse’s bread and butter. Storyboarding is done on a freelance basis while it is currently unknown as to how the episodes are written.

Four bonus videos, each shorter than a usual episode, were uploaded on various YouTube accounts between June and September of 2012. Fanmail and Barbie Technical Institute were originally uploaded to the Canadian Toys R Us YouTube channel as exclusives, however they were later reuploaded to the official Barbie channel and the website. Sand Away was initially a French exclusive uploaded some time in August, however it was uploaded on September 19 in English to the Barbie channel. A 'teaser' video was also uploaded prior to the series' premiere which features clips from season one as well as a number of clips not seen in season one.

Character Guide

When Barbie gets her driver’s license, she has to hold it up with both hands, since it’s the size of an actual human driver’s license. When Barbie is forced to pack up some of her apparently billions of belongings, her friends wrap them up in a cardboard box the size of the Dreamhouse, with a comically large roll of packing tape operated like a hamster wheel. Unlike in the movie, the Barbie and Ken of Life in the Dreamhouse are unambiguously girlfriend and boyfriend. But Dreamhouse Ken isn’t the barely repressed macho dope of the movie. This Ken is the kind of boyfriend who takes you out on a date for the 43rd anniversary of the first time you held hands. In a Superman parody, he’s the one doing the Lois Lane “Can you read my mind?

The creators have intentionally designed Barbie to embody everlasting beauty, both inside and out. Although her friends’ dynamics and stories evolve, Barbie herself remains a constant figure of joy, friendship, and empowerment. Barbie, the enchanting blonde fashionista, was born on March 9, 1959. However, in the “Life in the Dreamhouse” series, Barbie does not have a specific age mentioned. The series mainly focuses on showcasing Barbie’s glamorous lifestyle and her fun-filled adventures with her friends. While her age is not explicitly disclosed, Barbie is portrayed as a vibrant, young adult with an insatiable passion for fashion and dream career goals.

Mattel is releasing a vintage-inspired 65th anniversary doll, whose black-and-white striped ballgown is based on the first Barbie’s iconic swimsuit. In honor of Barbie's 65th anniversary, Mattel has announced an array of new dolls for fans to enjoy. To commemorate the iconic doll's birthday on March 9 and International Women's Day, which takes place the day before, Barbie's parent company Mattel is unveiling several new dolls.

So within weeks of this hearing, this small group of lawmakers gets together. And they say, let’s come up with a law that works where all the other ones have failed and actually make TikTok answer to its Chinese connections once and for all. It is our commitment to this committee and all our users that we will keep this free from any manipulation by any government. A handful of top brands make high-quality microwaves, but there are a few features you should look for to ensure you’re getting a quality appliance. Shoppers can expect graphic t-shirts, hats, hoodies, throw blankets, pillows, glassware, pet accessories, and plenty more. The truck itself is also the perfect backdrop for photos and selfies, and fans can look forward to a free gift with purchases over $40.

One of the main theme's in the exhibit was all about dreaming big. "Barbie You Can Be Anything" has been one of Mattel's big collections in recent years so many of the interactive experiences played into that. My daughter left wanting to be an astronaut, musician and scientist.

Created by Mattel, it is an animated web series available on various platforms such as YouTube and Netflix. The series has garnered a massive fan following due to its humorous storytelling, relatable characters, and colorful animation. Despite the exact timeline not being mentioned within the series, Barbie and her friends continue to embark on various entertaining escapades as the series progresses. Unlike other IP universes, the Barbie-verse has never been very concerned with trying to fit every piece of content into one tidy timeline—or with applying the rules and logic of a human world to a toy one. Life in the Dreamhouse was especially adept at using those inconsistencies for self-referential humor.

Princess Cruises to Galveston

We're looking at a trip this coming November out of Galveston on one of our favorite ships, the Regal. Ordinarily, we stay away from Princess transfers and do our own arrangements, but given the 70 mile distance between IAH and the port, we are considering Princess xfers this time. We had used them successfully on our only other trip out of Galveston many years ago. Has anyone used Princess transfers recently in Houston,  how much was the per person charge, and what was the earliest available pickup at the airport?

When you're planning a Princess Cruise out of Galveston, one important aspect to consider is cruise parking. Luckily, the Port of Galveston offers official cruise parking lots that are convenient and secure. Regal Princess arrived in Galveston, marking the beginning of a milestone cruise season as the largest Princess Cruise ship based in Texas. With a capacity of 3,560 guests, Regal Princess offers roundtrip journeys to the Western Caribbean through March 24, 2024 with an anticipated 75,000 cruisers sailing from this convenient, beautiful Texas homeport. We flew into IAH the day before our January 15 cruise on the Ruby. The transfer instructions from Princess instructed all passengers who were not arriving at IAH the day of the cruise to meet the Princess rep at terminal C at 10AM on the day of the sailing.

With its convenient location and stunning destinations, Princess Cruises offers a wonderful vacation option for those looking to explore the Caribbean and beyond.

There are park and ride lots that a bus then takes people to the Rodeo and later back to the parking lot. Often the bus companies get drivers from out of town who are very unfamiliar with Houston and the airports. I'm in a similar position - coming into IAH the morning of a cruise on the Ruby in April. I booked a transfer on Princess because the other options were either far more expensive, take up too much time, or both.

$58 for the two of us each way isn't bad at all given the distance. And for $58 each way for two, I think it's a great deal. Any chance you know the pickup schedule, when the first buses leave IAH? How did you book the shuttle, it isn't very obvious on the Princess site. A festive performance by Galveston’s local Ball High School Drill Team Tornettes and school mascot Tuffy kicked off the event.

Assuming there's no fog (a hazard in Galveston, depending on the time of year) and not too many delays otherwise, you should be at IAH between 10 and 11. It's a little risky, but it would be a risk that I would accept. I wouldn't schedule a flight out of IAH before noon with a 7 AM scheduled arrival. Houston has a big rodeo over several weeks each year.

For Princess transfers, there is no set schedule that I am aware of - the motor coaches leave when they are full or when they decide to go. We don't yet have the cruise booked, we're only still in the research phase. That's why I can't see the option to select transfers, it's probably only available under "Manage My Booking" once you have a cruise formally booked. They didn’t until the second or third cruise out of Galveston.

Tom Cruise 'M:I 7' Cast Light Up Rome for World Premiere

A consummate filmmaker involved in all aspects of production, Cruise has proven his versatility with the films and roles he chooses. In 1992, Cruise proved once more that he could hold his own opposite a screen legend when he co-starred with Jack Nicholson in the military courtroom drama A Few Good Men. The film grossed more than $15 million its first weekend and earned Cruise a Golden Globe nomination. He continued to demonstrate his success as a leading man with The Firm (1993) and Interview with a Vampire (1994), which co-starred Brad Pitt.

He had supporting roles in such movies as Taps (1981) and The Outsiders (1983) before starring as a high-school senior who turns his parents’ home into a brothel in Risky Business (1983). His star status was cemented with Top Gun (1986), the highest-grossing film of that year, in which he played a navy jet pilot. In 1986 Cruise appeared opposite Paul Newman in The Color of Money, which was directed by Martin Scorsese, and two years later starred as an autistic man’s selfish brother in Rain Man. For his portrayal of a Vietnam War veteran turned activist in Born on the Fourth of July (1989), Cruise received his first Academy Award nomination. Tom Cruise (born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV; July 3, 1962) is an American actor and producer. One of the world's highest-paid actors, he has received various accolades, including an Honorary Palme d'Or and three Golden Globe Awards, in addition to nominations for three Academy Awards.

Famous Actors

At age 14, Cruise enrolled in a Franciscan seminary with thoughts of becoming a priest, but he left after a year. When he was 16, a teacher encouraged him to participate in the school's production of the musical Guys and Dolls. After Cruise won the lead of Nathan Detroit, he found himself surprisingly at home on the stage, and a career was born. Cruise's parents divorced when he was 11, and the children moved with their mother to Louisville, Kentucky, and then to Glen Ridge, New Jersey, after she remarried. Like his mother and three sisters, Cruise suffered from dyslexia, which made academic success difficult for him.

These facts sketch a portrait of a daredevil with a finite budget for cakes, but hardly a recluse. Cruise’s spurning of interviews makes him unique among his cohort — A-list, pathologically charismatic, wrest-butts-into-seats-type movie stars — whose success, it has long been assumed, derives from their ability to appear likable to mortals. They demonstrate this skill, traditionally, by exhibiting their personality in interviews. Every time Cruise turns down an interview request (through his representative, Cruise declined to be interviewed for this article), he makes a bet that just his being Tom Cruise, offering no further details about what that might entail, is enticement enough for people to watch his movies. Cruise has been honored with tributes ranging from Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Man of the Year Award to the John Huston Award from the Artists Rights Foundation and the American Cinematheque Award for Distinguished Achievement in Film.

'Jack Reacher,' 'Edge of Tomorrow'

In addition to his artistic contributions, Cruise has used his professional success as a vehicle for positive change, becoming an international advocate, activist and philanthropist in the fields of health, education and human rights. He has been honored by the Mentor LA organization for his work on behalf of the children of Los Angeles and around the world. In 2011 Cruise received the Simon Wiesenthal Humanitarian Award and the following year he received the Entertainment Icon Award from the Friars Club for his outstanding accomplishments in the entertainment industry and in the humanities. He is the fourth person to receive this honor after Douglas Fairbanks, Cary Grant and Frank Sinatra. Most recently, Cruise was the first actor to receive The Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation’s Pioneer of the Year Award in 2018.

Cruise received Academy Award® nominations for Best Actor for Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire. He was a Best Supporting Actor nominee for Magnolia and won Golden Globes (Best Actor) for Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire, in addition to a Best Supporting Actor prize for Magnolia. He also received Golden Globe nominations for his roles in Risky Business, A Few Good Men and The Last Samurai. Cruise has earned acting nominations and awards from BAFTA, the Screen Actors Guild, the Chicago Film Critics Association and the National Board of Review.

IMF agent Ethan Hunt comes into conflict with a dangerous and sadistic arms dealer who threatens his life and his fiancée in response. A self-indulgent and vain publishing magnate finds his privileged life upended after a vehicular accident with a resentful lover. An American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization.

For the latter, he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and received his second Academy Award nomination. His performance as a motivational speaker in the drama Magnolia (1999) earned him another Golden Globe Award and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. His next five films were major critical and commercial successes.[41][42] The following year, Cruise starred in the romantic thriller Vanilla Sky (2001) with Cameron Diaz and Penélope Cruz. In 2002, Cruise starred in the dystopian science fiction action film Minority Report, which was directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the science fiction short story by Philip K. Dick. In 1999, Cruise costarred with Kidman in Stanley Kubrick's erotic and psychological drama film Eyes Wide Shut. Rolling Stone film critic Peter Travers heaped praise on Cruise writing, "Cruise is a revelation, fully deserving of the shower of superlatives coming his way ... Cruise seethes with the chaotic energy of a wounded animal – he's devastating."[36] For his performance he received another Golden Globe and nomination for an Academy Award.

For the latter, he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and received a second Academy Award nomination. Cruise's performance as a motivational speaker in the drama Magnolia (1999) earned him another Golden Globe Award and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Cruise, who took up acting in high school, made his film debut in Endless Love (1981).

His family moved around a great deal when Cruise was a child to accommodate his father's career. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and WB studio chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy had in mind when the movie star signed his strategic partnership last month, specifically something that is both original and meant to be seen on the biggest screens around the world. The film is produced and directed by Iñárritu with a new script he co-wrote in 2023 with Sabina Berman as well as Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, his co-writers on Birdman, reuniting a decade later. This also marks the first film for Cruise (who will also produce) following the announcement of his strategic partnership with Warner Bros last month.

He left school and moved to New York City, struggling through audition after audition before landing an appearance in 1981's Endless Love, starring Brooke Shields. Around this same time, he snagged a small role in the military school drama Taps (1981), co-starring Sean Penn. The career and life of Stanley Kubrick is explored through pictures, clips from his films, his old home movies, comments from his colleagues and a narration by Tom Cruise. His marriage to Kidman was followed closely by the Hollywood media, as was their divorce in 2001. Over the next few years, his outspoken support of Scientology proved controversial, especially his 2005 public denouncement of psychiatry as an illegitimate science (a view held by Scientologists).

His films have grossed over $4 billion in North America and over $11.1 billion worldwide, making him one of the highest-grossing box office stars of all time. He reteamed with Spielberg on War of the Worlds (2005), a visually impressive adaptation of the H.G. In 2008 Cruise earned laughs as an abrasive movie executive in the comedy Tropic Thunder, and he portrayed the historical figure Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, a German army officer who organized an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler, in Valkyrie. As a leading Hollywood star in the 1990s, he starred in several commercially successful films, including the drama A Few Good Men (1992), the thriller The Firm (1993), the horror film Interview with the Vampire (1994), and the romance Jerry Maguire (1996).
